Department of Art History
The Department of Art History provides diverse programs for the study of the theory of art. Artists need to have an understanding of Art History to set a perspective for his subject. Thus the syllabus and course structure involve keeping abreast with the developments in the field of Indian Art, Western and Far Eastern art, study of Iconography, Aesthetics and Architecture of Oriental and Occidental traditions, Historiography, Museology, Art forms of North-East India etc. The department has a collection of large number of books, audio tapes, biographical CD and DVDs, movies, and images of various Indian and Western artists. After completing the course students can work as art writers, art critics, contemporary curators, art consultants, gallery managers, and art historians in academies and also as art educators in different colleges/faculties.
